Mock Paper - PJW - 13-06-2011

There still seems to have been no formal announcement of the changes to the module 3 exam expected in 2011.
A mock paper based on my current understanding is included in the Training Events Thread for the Derby Signet event at the end of next month

RE: Mock Paper - interesting_signal - 13-06-2011

I emailed the IRSE last week about the changes to the mod 3 paper. The receipt I received when I registered for the exam mentions the mod 1 changes, but confusingly, says there are no changes to the other modules. They said they would get back to me this week. I'll share any info I get here.

Thanks; in parallel I have tried a second tack via the examiners. Apparently a piece has been written for IRSE News explaining the proposed changes which was to be ratified by Council before publication. Since this has yet to happen, it is a matter of finding whether it is just taking "time in the pipeline" or whether it has been modified or rejected

I believe that the following text will appear in the next (JULY) edition of IRSE News, so make sure you read it all the way through to check:

The exam committee have drafted blank control tables for the use of candidates which will be available at the exam centres. Candidates may, if they wish, bring pre-prepared blank control table sheets of their preferred format in sufficient quantity for their use. Any candidates using their own sheets must ask the invigilator to inspect and initial all the blank sheets.

Candidates will be required to answer 3 questions from a selection of 11 where one question will consist of producing a control table for a number of signals and points, and another question will be related to, or involve, the production of an aspect sequence chart. All questions will have the same number of marks.

I understand why the exam office say that you must being your own copies (some exam centres do not have copying facilities), but I take it that getting copies made of your own blanks at the exam centre where the facilities are available will be permitted.

I would suggest, assume no copying facilities are available and bring sufficient copies including spares!

Or ask your friendly invigilator to check what is available.

There's now a link on the IRSE website regarding the exam changes:

Thanks for making us all aware- I am glad that it has been published at last. Unless they actually contact everyone who has registered, I am sure that there will be some candidates in OCtober to whom it will be a surprise.
I think they should also publsh the blank Control Tables but am not confident that this will happen.

The link was in the response I received from the IRSE re the changes. Have also asked about whether the blank control table will be made available in advance so we can get familiar with it. No response yet. If it's only made available on the day of the exam, I think I will take my own template with me so that there are no surprises on the day.
